Fujitsu Brings 4G Wireless a Step Closer

by BBelew57 on September 21st, 2007

Fujitsu Ltd developed a transistor amplifier that can efficiently boost wireless signals even when above 100 watts…thus meeting the high-output requirements of base stations for 4G mobile phones.

The new substation amplifier is ten times stronger than current amplifiers.

4G amplifiers must be able to:

1. handle 100 watts for each line,

2. carry multiple channels4G.cell.phone.jpg

3. achieve data transmission speeds of up to 1,000 megapits per second.

A prototype of Fujitsu's new device was able to amplify signals without leakage.

The prototype also boasts four times the amplification factor and consumes 30% less power.

Reliability is still a problem…

Fujitsu wants 2-3 more years to work out the kinks.

4G phones are expected to debut in 2011.

What will do with all that power on your phone?
