The number of cars per household in Japan reached 0.5 in 1976 and 1.0 in 1996.
After that, the number continued to climb until last year, when it dipped to 1.107 cars per household...57,236,620 vehicles as of March 31st of this year.
The number also includes minivehicles - 660cc or less in engine size.
Fukui has the most cars per household - 1.766.
Tokyo has the least - .521. Why anybody would want a car in Tokyo is
far beyond me.The number of minivehicles owned in Japan hit a record - 47.9 per 100 household.
Tottori prefecture has 95.2 mini car per 100 households. But, then Tottori probably has only about 100 households.
Japan is running out of room to put their cars. What's more, there is almost no place you can't go (if you are not in a hurry) in Japan by public transportation.
Still...country folk...prefer and need a car.
