Nissan Motor Co. says it will release a car with the next-generation diesel engine that meets emission standards two years ahead of schedule.
The rollout will make Nissan the first automaker to clear new domestic regulations coming in 2009.
Nissan's diesel X-Trail will be 200,000-300,000 ($1700-2500) more expensive than the standard gasoline engine.
In 2009, emissions standards will be about 30% stricter on
nitrogen oxides and other particulate matter.Diesel engines are also more efficient than gasoline engines.
But...it will take a lot of miles to make up for the extra initial costs.
Oh, yeah...divers will be saving the environment.
Seems that Nissan wants to be known more than for just being safe, eh?
