Nissan Motor Co. can't beat Toyota Motors or Honda Motors in fuel-efficiency or price...so the company is going after being the safest car there is.
Add to Nissan's arsenal that the car maker has come up with a concept car that will NOT start if the driver appears to be drunk.
If the car detects the drivers is soused, the ignition will lock.
A camera combined with multiple sensors that measure the driver's perspiration,
breath and facial expressions confirm the level of drunkeness.
WARNING - it might also not start if the driver is just
plain ugly. (Big problem for me.)The gear shift knob can detect alcohol in the driver's palm and issue a voice alert, warning messages via the navigation system and lock the stick.
Odor sensors can detect smells from different areas in the car - driver or passengers.
WARNING: Excessive gas will cause the car to choke and throw the driver out.
Cameras constantly monitor the driver's face for movements that indicate drunkeness. If the driver shows signs of drowsiness the seat belts will tighten.
WARNING: If you don't die at the wheel by falling asleep, you could be crushed by a seatbelt instead.
All seriousness aside...great idea Nissan!
I have two siblings who both died drunk...one behind a motorcycle and the other driving a recliner, too drunk to escape a house fire.
Safety is more important than fuel-efficiency. Both are best.
