Japan's two largest department stores, Mitsukoshi and Isetan have agreed to merge their operations under a holding company by the spring of 2008.
The two major retailers will create the largest department store of Japan AND make life a whole lot easier for shoppers who can't decide where to go - to Mitsukoshi or Isetan.
They will be one and the same.
An official decision on the merger is expected sometime next
week.
Mitsukoshi and Isetan are both already huge...all over Japan and have a presence internationally.
It used to be that my wife couldn't decide which one she wanted to shop at and we consequently went to both.
Whew! The days are over. If we go to one, we go to the other.
