Microsoft Japan Eyes Shift from Mainframes for Windows Server 2008
Next spring, Microsoft Co. will release Windows Server 2008.
Japan lags behind other countries in transitioning from mainframes to computer servers with the former accounting for nearly one-fourth of the broader server market and twice that of the United States and Europe.
Microsoft sees a huge potential for replacing mainframes with servers for use with large systems and will team up with Japanese companies to promote and install Window Server 2008
with the same level of reliability as mainframes.
Microsoft has already reached an agreement with NEC Corp to develop large servers for which CPU and memory can be added/exchanged while the system is in use.
Similar agreements are expected with Hitachi and Fujitsu.
Japan and the Japanese are Microsoft fans. Microsoft Japan has also launched a program to aid software firms' development efforts free of charge.
I wish I had a Japanese OS on my PC. When Japan does things, they do them right…even though Microsoft may be involved.
