Britain’s Turn to Face Meat Ban from Japan

by BBelew57 on August 4th, 2007

It's Britain's turn to face a ban on meat by Japan.

The British government announced that foot-and-mouth disease had been detected in pork from pigs (where else does pork come from?) on a cattle farm in southern England.

It won't make a big difference to Japanese consumers but it will mean something to the exporters of the 5 tons from Britain.british.pork.jpg

Japan gets 737,000 tons overall from outside of Japan according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry

and Fisheries.

Some 80% of Japan's imporks come from the United States, Denmark and Canada.

Each year, Japan eats about 1.6 million tons of pork.

It is the second time Britain has face a meat ban by Japan. The first was a beef ban due to mad cow disease.

Tonkatsu prices going up? by 5%?
