Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Remembered

by BBelew57 on August 6th, 2007

The gutted A-bomb dome at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima is a constant reminder of the A-Bomb attack on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.hiroshima.bomb.jpg

At 8:15 am the B-29 Enola Gay took the first of two giant steps to end WWII when the bomb exploded about 600 meters above the city.

A few days later, Nagasaki was the second victim of an atomic bombing.

Every year at this time, Japan remembers these events, surprisingly, not with hatred or anger but with hope that such an occurence will never be repeated.

About 80,000 people died instantly in the world's first nuclear attack. Another 140,000 succumbed over the years.

Perhaps it is time to shake the cobwebs off an old bomb and put an end to the war on terrorism, too.

Maybe not.

What do you think?
