I had a girl tell me once that I was ugly enough to stop a herd of buffalos.
I didn't know whether to be insulted or proud.
After all, some people, well animals at least, can win prizes for being the ugliest whatever.
And one woman in Japan showed how even ugly people can make a killing if […]

RisingSunOfNihon has reached a huge milestone….1,000,000 page views turned by 530,000 unique visitors at 54 secs/visitor.
That adds up to nearly 11 full months!
In RSON's very young 13 months, someone, on average, has been here 85% of the time and growing.
It boggles my mind that someone/s is here at RSON nearly all the time.
Gosh…I am suddenly […]

There are more ways to get in to Japan than via Narita, the international airport serving Tokyo. Tokyo also has Haneda.
Kansai Airport serves Osaka and is my airport of choice when heading home. I can fly into Kansai, transfer and then fly to Niigata. I can't do that from Tokyo's Narita airport. I have to […]

Yup…somebody in Japan tried to get worm food to catch on.
No, not use worms to catch fish. That's already being done.
Believing that worms will improve the health of women and young children, a company in Aomori has come up with, um, appetizing ways to enjoy the little invertebrates.
Men, thankfully, are glad their health doesn't need […]

Somebody left bundles of money on several occasions in public men's restrooms of city buildings.
Somebody else threw several thousand off a bridge and let it rain down.
Yet another numbskull threw $80kish out with the garbage.
Today…money showed up in the mailboxes of 18 household all in the same condominium building - totally 1.81 million yen ($15kish).
Somebody […]

The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lost the position of the largest bloc in Japan's Upper House for the first time since its founding in 1955. That's fifty years and change that the LDP has been in charge or at least has led the controlling coalition.
No more….the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) is now the […]

"Help! I Can't Get Rid of My Mother-in-law!" is what I would be saying IF I still had my Japanese wife.
My ex-mother-in-law had a lot to do with the problems in our marriage and now the witch is living longer to be able to rub it in.
Japanese women live longer than anybody - 85.8 years […]

Japan introduced the compact, then the sub-compact. How about one size smaller? - the shoe, er, the minicar.
The minicar used to be for those who couldn't afford a 'real car.' Now the minicar is becoming the car of choice in a land where gasoline goes for $4.75/gallon and the price tag is around $10,000, not […]

Riken Corp has a 50% market share of piston ring production in Japan. The company also has about a 70% market share of seal rings.
When the earthquake hit Kashiwazaki, home of Riken, Japan's 12 automakers saw the plants paralyzed…including Toyota Motor Co, and Nissan Motor Co.
Even Toyota cars are no good with out piston rings […]
