Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Reigning Champ - Takeru Kobayashi
America's Joey "Jaws" Chestnut recently drank down 59 and 1/2 hot dogs in 12 minutes to break the world record for such a feat previously held by Japan's Takeru Kobayashi.
Kobayashi had the record at 53 and 3/4 hot dogs.
But…Joey Chestnut did NOT beat Kobayashi…(Kobayashi wasn't there)…Jaws just beat the record.
However, the two are due to face off in New York on July 4th at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest IF Kobayashi shows up.![]()
Kobayashi's manager has not been in touch with the champ, but offers up the news that Kobayashi's mother died this spring and he has not been in training.
You train to eat hot dogs? I reckon so.
If Kobayashi does show up, he will be going for his seventh Nathan's title.
The only time he has ever lost in a face off was to an 1100lb Kodiak bear.
Besides previously holding the hot dog eating record, Kobayashi also has eaten:
1. 97 hamburgers in 8 minutes
2. 100 pork dumplings in 12 minutes
3. 41 lobster rolls in 10 minutes.
His hot dog eating technique - soak the buns in water while he shoves the frankfurter down.
In training, Kobayashi considers the contests a sport, he takes roughly 50 types of supplements, costing around $1200/month to keep his internal organs in check.
He also works hard to keep his entire body, especially his abdominal and heart muscles in shape.
Other than that, he eats regular meals with a monthly budget of around $200-275 spent on food
Kobayashi's first victory was in Japan's National Gluttony Championships in 2000. And, ever since, he's been the champ.
What's your claim to fame when eating?
I once ate three 16oz hamburgers at a Max & Erma's restaurant and got a free T-shirt for my effort.
