Two comic book artists stand out - ![]()
Tezuka Osamu (1928-89) The creator of Astro Boy, a brave and kind-hearted robot boy. The other day, my wife and I were driving around in San Francisco and we saw a sign advertising an Astro Boy exhibition coming to the Asian Museum. My wife, Chinese, "I know him!"
For a long time, the Chinese didn't know who Snoopy was, but they knew Astro Boy.
Hasegawa Machiko (1920-92) The creator of Sazaesan, a housewife series that gives a comic look into a three-generation family. It also appears in book form and became a popular TV program.
