The 10 Kinds of Japanese Schools

Japanese are educated if you count sitting passively in front of teachers while they ramble on an education.

The people start early and if they stick with it, finish 20+ years later.

There are some 10 different kinds of school in Japan.

1. Kindergarten - 1-3 years. Pre-school fits in here and the little guys start off at 3-years old. There are more than 14,000 kindergartens/pre-schools in Japan.

2. Elementary school - 6 years (ages 6-12). There are more than 23,000 elementary schools.

3. Junior high school - 3 years (ages 13-15). They number 11,000+.

This ends compulsory education.

4. High school - 3 years (ages 16-18). Abt 5,500.

5. Technical College - 2 years. abt 63.

6. Junior College - 2 years. abt 525

7. University - 4 years. abt 700 schools

8. Graduate school - 2+ years

9. Specialized training schools - 1+ years. abt 3,400 institutions.

10. Vocational School - 1+ year

About 49% of Japanese high schoolers go on to college, second only to the United States.
