Sony Develops World’s First Full-Color Bendable Display

by BBelew57 on May 24th, 2007

Sony has developed the world's first OEL (organic electroluminescence) display that works in full color, even when bent.

The screen size is 2.5 inches and the thickness is is just 0.3mm, less than one tenth of conventional OEL displays.

The screen can be mounted on curved surfaces or rolled up for storage.

The display uses a plastic-film substrate and organic thin-film transistors.

Sony plans to improve the life of materials and video display capabilities before

sony.bend.display.jpg releasing it for use in new applications, including television (round tvs?) and cellular phones.

Imagine the possibilities if mobile phones didn't have to have flat surfaces.

With this development, Sony is poised to move ahead of rivals in the race for the next generation flat-panel TV.

What would you do if your display could bend?
