4 Rules Governing Holidays when Working for a Japanese Company
Japanese work long hours. Or more accurately, they spend a long time at the work place. That's another discussion reserved for another post.
In 1993 the Labor Law was revised to establish regulations concerning holidays and time off for Japanese workers.
1. Workers must get one day off each week.![]()
2. After six months at the same company a worker with an attendance rate of 80% or more is entitled to 10 days paid leave.
3. After 18 months at the same company, paid holidays increase by one each year until a maximum percent of 20.
Each year, Japanese workers are off about 120 days…a far cry from the 150 days off each year in Germany and France and the one month holidays workers in those countries experience.
But then, Japan gets a lot more work done, too. No?
