Japan Sees First Rise in Birthrate in 6 Years

by BBelew57 on May 29th, 2007

Well, we know what a lot of Japanese young couples have been up to last year, now don't we?

For the first time in six years the average number of children per birth giving machine reached 1.31…the highest since 1.32 in 2002.

Junior baby boomers, born between 1971-1974 are given credit for the increase in production, er, reproduction.

Thanks to better economic conditions, the 30-somethings are now marrying or beginning to have kids.japanese.baby.jpg

Researchers in Japan are saying that the birth giving machines must produce, on average, 2.07 children each in order for Japan to maintain its population over the medium to long term.

Analysts fear that if the junior baby boomers don't turn out more kids in the next couple of years, prior predictions of decreasing population, lower income for social security and such will surely come to pass.

What can Japan do to get the birth rate turned around?
