71-Year Old Japanese Becomes Oldest to Scale Mt. Everest
The Japan Mountaineering Association announced that a 71-year old Japanese mountain climber has become the oldest person to reach the 8,850 meter summit of the world's highest mountain.
The 71 years 2 months and 2 day-old Japanese man broke the record of another 70-year old Japanese man.
The man, Yanagisawa, started climbing on April 8th with a New Zealand climbing expedition and reached the top today, May 29th in clear weather.
Japanese are dudes when it comes to climbing. I can remember little old ladies and men zipping by me and my friends when we climbed Fuji, no piece of cake no matter what they tell you.
There's a reason why it's called a mountain top experience…![]()
What's the biggest mountain you have ever climbed…physical, natural or otherwise?
Meanwhile, other Japanese were setting records for bringing home trash that was left behind by others on Mount Everest.
