Japan has a new singer-songwriter star...known as Ayaka. Her full name is Ayaka Iida, born in Osaka.
Next Monday, it will be announced that 19-year old Ayaka's first album will surpass 1 million in copies, the first time a Japanese female singer has done so in four years. The last was Mika Nakashima.
Ayaka made her debut in February of last year, with "I Believe" which sold 300,000 copies.![]()
Her first album, containing "I believe" and "Mikazuki" sold 351,000 copies in the first two weeks of sales.
It didn't hurt that a few weeks ago, Ayaka sang "I believe" at a skating rink while her best friend 2007 World Figure Skating Championship winner Miki Ando performed in an exhibition, either.
Question: Does a song climb to number one because it is marketed to do so or does it go there because it really is better than so many others?
I am not a music buff, and it is hard for me to determine that one song or one album is really so much better than all others.
Ayaka sings while Miki dances on ice...quite a treat.

A unique combination of symphony and dance.
The stroke of the dance is as rythmic as the tune of the song. Ayaka and Miki makes a perfect pair for live performance of music and dance on stage.
Wish them every success and a bright future.
