Isuzu Motors Buys Alabama
I wish it were as cheap to buy land where I live in Silicon Valley as it is in Alabama or where my sister lives in Sunman, Indiana.
I went home last week for a memorial service. While we talked about real estate prices, I learned that I could buy her whole street for what it cost me for my little shoebox condo.
Isuzu Motors is no fool.
The company shelled out $7.8 million to buy land in southern Alabama for future business activities including a vehicle assembly plant.![]()
Land is cheaper in Alabama…labor is cheaper in Alabama…the cars and trucks that Isuzu rolls out will be cheaper if made there.
At present Isuzu produces fewer than 5,000 trucks a year in the US at a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Oh…and Toyota, which owns a 5.9% stake in Isuzu will make more money, too.
Have you ever driven an Isuzu vehicle?

As Toyoland predicted, Toyota is now talking with Isuzu about collaboration on diesel engines. Isuzu, which was the driving force behind GM’s lauded Duramax engines - diesels that are relatively quiet, fuel-efficient, and long-lasting, though Nissan oxygen sensor - has also developed strong pollution controls for diesel engines in smog-prone areas of Japan. Which in turn a great competition in the automotive market for both car manufacturers, knowing that Toyota would be having a tag team with Isuzu against Nissan…
