Honda Motor Company Builds Churches
I went to memorial service yesterday in Batesville, IN. Batesville sits about halfway between Cincinnati and Indianapolis on I-74.
The little church where the service was held had a sign up saying that there were 203 people there the previous Sunday.
I commented to the preacher that the number had grown since the last time I was there. As preachers do, he pointed out the number was down from the usual because many members were away for spring break holidays and such and that the church leadership fully expected the church to grow in the coming years.![]()
In fact, he said, the church had just purchased 3 acres of land to prepare for the coming expansion.
Some of the members, he said, even though their houses were NOT on the market, were receiving phone calls asking for their homes to be sold.
A boom in growth was coming, land prices were going to skyrocket…the church, too, was going to grow.
Honda Motor Co. was building a plant about one exit down on the highway. Honda…was going to be the impetus for growth in the church.
It occurred to me that when a company like Japan's second largest motor company moves into an area, it really does impact the area in many ways…ways I would not have thought sitting in Silicon Valley 2,000 miles away.
But the potential for growth had not escaped the men of God in the little church there.
Too bad my mom won't get to see and tell me about other changes. It was a memorial service for her.
