Cell Phone Wars Benefit Advertising Agencies

Only one in 50 cell phone users switched providers between Otober 24, 06 and March 31, 07….and that despite serious price wars, new products and number portability.

KDDI, DoCoMo and Softbank had predicted that about 10% of mobile phone users would switch. In the end…only 2% changed.

Still, with 100 million cell phone users in Japan, that amounts to 2 million users.cell.phone.wars.jpg

The companies that made out in the cell phone wars were major advertising agencies which reported a 35% increase in cell-phone related ad billings.

I wonder if it was the ad agencies that fed research findings to the mobile carriers saying - cell phone users want to switch.
