Japan does not have the taste that China does. It is quite apparent when the 'Hottest Girls' in the two countries are compared.
China chooses mature girls/women, asks them to leave their clothes ON and then popularizes them based on ability, not just appearance....usually.
Japan's quality is low. The girls (not women) are called idols and, well, they are idolized by even younger girls...and manga reading boys and men.
Japan goes for cute...not beautiful. It strikes me as a bit weird. But, it's Japan's culture and that's the rankings the 'normal' news spots show.
My Japanese friend spent the New Year's Holidays in Japan. She tells me that his young lady ... Koda Kumi ...is really hot these days...making money for her managers...doing the business celebrity thing.
