Mitsukoshi had some best sales ever marks posted on January 2nd but have seen sales go south 3.5% compared to last year as of January 13th.
Takashimaya Co sales ahve slid 0.6% and women's clothing is down 3%. Tokyo experienced a very heavy rainfall on Jan. 6th and sales plummeted 30%.
Hankyu Department Stores saw sales surge 10% on Jan 2-3 and then go flat.
Talk about fair/foul weather shoppers.
I wonder if these stores know the policy of our local outdoor mall. The stores offer a 10% discount (equals no sales tax) to shoppers who show up on rainy days.
For now, these Japanese department stores have hired local bands to stand outside and sing for them "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."
Not to fear...Japan's cold days of winter are still to come.
What do you think?
