Udon Maker Sees Market in China
Frozen Udon noodle, seafood, cooked rice and other non-frozen product maker, Katokichi has changed its attitude toward China.
Until now, the company thought of China as a low-cost mannufacturing base with only 3% of group revenue accounting for sales in China.
If China will buy 3%, then why not 4 or more.
Katokichi has nine separate factories in China and handled orders from each one.![]()
The company has decided to centralize orders through three new sales companies (Shanghai, Tianjin and Sichuan Province) and a local unit.
A local arm in Shandong Province will be the hub for all orders.
It got me to wondering how many other companies will begin to think or have already begun thinking of China as more than a low-cost factory.
Japanese and Chinese tastes are not that different.
Perhaps other food makers will follow suit.
What do you think?
