A former president of Kyochiku meat wholesaler and four of his buddies were caught evading 14 billion ($110 million) in pork tariffs.
The pork came to Japan from Denmark. The whole scalers reported to customs prices some hundreds of yen less per kilogram than the actual price.
Another meat wholesaler tried the same scam in 2002-03 but was
caught holding back on 6.28 billion yen ($50 million).You would think that if one wholesaler couldn't get away with it, the other would figure that they would be on the 'watch list' no?
What were they thinking?
I don't know, but they will have plenty of time to figure that out when it becomes their turn in the pen.
