When Japan looks for places to invest the trillions of yen it has in the bank the first four countries it heads to are:
1. China
2. Thailand
3. Indonesia
4. Vietnam
Vietnam is attractive to Japanese business, says the General Director of Itochu Corporation in Japan. The reasons are:
1. There is a big domestic market - more than 80 million people
2. The labor force is skilled and cheap
3. The Vietnamese goverment has incentives in place to attract foreign investors, including Japan.
On August 21st, there was a Vietnam-Japan Business Forum held in Vietnam with the aim of attracting more investment from Japan.
Japan has money. Vietnam needs money. Japan has expertise. Vietnam has many industrious workers.
There is potential for long lasting and a mutually beneficial relationship between these two countries.
