For the first time ever, the 12 Japanese car manufacturers made more cars overseas than they did in Japan.
Toyota, Honda, and Nissan plus nine other car makers produced 10.93 million cars overseas last fiscal year compared to 10.89 million cars "Made in Japan."
Japanese car makers have had a strategy to globalize production of their cars while maintaining quality. Of course, it is cheaper to do so, considering the costs in Japan.
Now that the Japanese autombile makers have proven that they are serious in this quest of producing more overseas, it is highly likely that the trend will continue and the pace picked up.
Before long, Japanese quality will be "Made in the US," "Made in Brazil" or "Made in China." But one thing is sure, quality will not be sacrificed in any event, I think.
