Okay, that title should show you how long it has been since I watched television. No doubt there are many more commercials that have caught on since this Wendy's commercial of years ago.
In December of 2003, Japan put a ban on beef imported from the US because the first case of mad cow's disease was discovered.
The ban was finally lifted in December of 2005 only to be in reinstated one month later when a shipment containing 'risky parts' was discovered. Perhaps we should ban beef in the US, too...if there are risky parts in it.
American beef is cheaper than Japanese domestic beef. Nearly everything is cheaper than Japanese domestic beef...which goes for about $28/lb. I remember wanting to eat a steak and was asked for my credit card and how many installments I would like to pay for it in.
American beef goes for almost $15/lb.
A recent survey in Japan revealed that 80% of Japanese were concerned about US beef. Another survey said that only one in 20 major food companies in Japan would use US beef.
A Yomiuri survey revealed that nearly 90% of Japanese did not want to eat US beef.
I think we got it...disease + risky parts in US beef = quality-minded Japanese rejection.
$15/lb - I don't want it either.
How about you?

we hear about the risky parts every once in a while here too, but we just keep on eating it. and we are still here. although it would be strange not to eat any of our domestic meat and only eat imported.
