
According to Renewable Energy Access China's major solar photovoltaic player, Suntech Power Holdings is attempting to acquire Japan's MSK Corporation.
In the first step, Suntech will acquire two-thirds equity interest in MSK for $107 million. Then depending on sales and such, the remainder will be paid.
Japan is the world's largest market for PV modules. Japan is also quite difficult for foreign companies to enter.
Suntech will have the advantage of MSK's nationwide sales and marketing platform.
Japan is considered the most important market for solar energy. It boasts of 53% of world production. And MSK is one of Japan's largest PV makers.
China is poised to be the world leader in renewable energy. Suntech aims to be one of the major players. Now, with Japan's MSK supplying the renewable power, China's Suntech can make some serious inroads into the renewable energy market.
If China does do well in renewable energy, that will be good news for all of us.
